practice makes perfect

I decided to take a little time on a rainy day to practice taking pictures on some really cute subjects. I have been reading up on lots of different techniques involving exposure and composition and today was a good day to practice. As you will notice, there are more of the Tuck Man simply because he cannot move once I put him somewhere. AND he smiles beautifully and genuinely and is just plain happy that I'm taking his picture. His big brother on the other hand...

  1. I love all of the pictures that you put up on the blog! What kind of camera do you have? I am thinking about getting a new one since I have a wonderful little man to take pictures of now! :)

  2. I thought your pictures have looked more "intentional" lately. :) These really look great!
I've been practicing/studying on how to use my camera as well and have been saving up for a new lens. What kind do you have on your camera?

  3. thanks blythe! i do love taking them. we have about a 4 year old canon rebel xt. i am thinking about selling it and all 3 lenses we have to upgrade. it's a GREAT camera though and perfect for starting out. you're little guy is precious :) let me know if you have any more questions.

MC - thanks for the compliment. i SO enjoy taking pictures and the more i learn, the more i love it. so i am teaching myself.
i mainly use our 50mm lense. it's my absolute favorite. it goes to a 1.8 aperture setting which allows a lot more light and is good for people pictures. do you have a nikon?

  4. We do have a Nikon and have just been using the kit lens, but just purchased a 50 mm f/1.8 and can't wait to try it out! :) If you don't mind sharing, what resources have you been using to teach yourself?

  5. I use all kinds of different sources. One I've been using lots lately is thepioneerwoman.com there are LOTS of great tutorials and such in her photography section. i have gotten a lot of tips lately from there. i am forever searching and playing and learning by just USING the camera. metering, iso, aperture, shutter speed. just figuring out how they all work together in different light. I LOVE IT!

your pictures are great and your girls are the cutest.
