one-on-one

tuck and i had a surprise (to both of us) date. i got to enjoy muffins with mom and see all of the special things he had made me at school. it really was so sweet. and he was SO excited about it all.

i was going to take him to pick strawberries afterwards while will was still at school but they weren't picking that day so we headed to one of his favorite local places to explore. i figured if we could be outside together taking a walk, there really wasn't any other better option for the two of us.

so that's just what we did.

i am so so thankful for individual time with these boys. i love to just listen to them. and let them know i am listening. they have so much to say and to be able to focus completely on one at a time doesn't happen all that often. it's treasured.

tuck is a hoot. and has the most precious, genuine heart.

from the moment he knew we were going somewhere together, he told me about 55 things he wanted to spend our time doing. talking was one of them.

when we got to the greenway and we got on the trail, he looked at me and said, "mommy, will you hold my hand? i will always want to hold your hand forever." so we walked and talked and held hands for as long as there wasn't something for him to chase and catch.

the sky was perfectly blue and a breeze was blowing. we saw all sorts of birds to which he knew all the names. he saw five skinks, a water snake with babies, caught butterflies, found very odd caterpillars and talked about every single thing we saw.

it was perfect. to sum it up, tuck's words are perfect...

"i just can't take it all in, all this beautiful creation."
