all i really wanted on christmas day was to adventure out to the pond behind my parent's house and photograph these little hooligans. it didn't come without resistance. 

but thankfully they have a super fun father that can always make light of any situation. not to mention his incredible skill in acting the fool to get these guys to crack a laugh. 

usually i am so against forcing a photo but sometimes the moment seems too fleeting. these boys are growing too fast for me and it was christmas day for heavens sake. i mean, they won't be wearing sweater vests and embroidered corduroy for much longer. 

so they finally obliged and settle on "it's what mommy wants for christmas."

and what do you know they actually enjoyed themselves. we all ended up winning.

tree hunt 2013 . penland tree farm

one of the most perfect afternoons we've had in a while. decided on a whim to look for a tree farm near by and lucky us. penland tree farm is about 15 minutes from our house. 

it was cold as it should be when you cut down your own tree. the clouds were low and the sun shown itself through slits that made the most beautiful light over the low hills. the tractor ride was free, the marshmallows were sticky, the trees smelled heavenly, and the afternoon was close to perfect. 

no doubt this was only the first of many years to come.
